A design specification is the first stage in taking a concept forward. It lists the requirements from a user perspective, which can be compared with the technical requirements, where compromises may have to be made, before purchasing.
An installation specification takes the design specification forward to key stakeholders such as manufacturers, suppliers, technical personnel and users to ensure that the standards for safety, functionality (ergonomics) resilience, and reliability of the initial design are not compromised. It will list parts and materials required, costings and schedules.
